Street Fighter 6 Fight Log

I need to stop cluttering up my game log with talk of Street Fighter 6 so it's time to spin this off into its own page. The point of this one is to keep a record of my progress or lack thereof in playing street fighter 6, and let me go back and look over old matches. I do not expect anyone to watch these. the game's not especially mysterious or underreported, but i do sometimes like playing popular games and I think writing about the process of getting good at fighting games is in the same sort of algorithmic death zone that the rest of my writing is. this also isn't quite an SSLP since I'm linking to videos of the replays, but i'm feeling experimental about this.

a short set today. 3 opponents, 6 sets.

# name set 1 set 2 set 3 win/loss
1 Cammy 00:33 - 02:34 02:40 - 03:55 04:02 - 05:52 WLL
2 Jamie 06:27 - 08:33 08:35 - 10:27 N/A WW
3 Jamie 10:55 - 12:51 N/A N/A L

I was a bit wiped after work but I figured I should get at least some practice in so I don't get rusty. I'm doing a little bit better at blocking and using my jabs.

shorter set of matches today. there's 4 opponents in 9 sets.

I think I'm getting outplayed on the ground in ken/ryu matches. I'm getting better about using my normals, and starting to learn where to use my jabs, and I'm getting a little bit better at responding to wakeups and parrying. Not quite good enough to not get outplayed though. I asked some people how you deal with grapplers generally and a Lily player I know told me about how unsafe Lily's moves are if she doesn't have any charge. A Marisa player said if I'm fighting grapplers I should just stand back and throw hadoukens, and do a crossup jump if they get close, which I agreed sounded like it'd be really annoying to deal with if you're playing a grappler. The advice from the Lily player is good to know, but I should probably go through the character tutorial for her to know what moves she has and what she's trying to do.

Opponent 11(Manon)  (L)47:30 - 51:37
I got blown out a bunch in these matches. The Ken in match 4 felt like I was playing a mirror match. I think I'm a bit too tilted to think about the matches properly right now. I'm getting outplayed a lot. I still don't know what the rushdown characters are doing and I'm not sure what the response to Kimberly should be. I'm running into grapplers for the first time and I'm still trying to figure out what the approach should be. I'm also getting beaten whenever I need to block, I think. I'm not really sure what to do in neutral outside of using hadoukens to bait out a jump-in. Tatsumaki-senpukyakus feel really unsafe to throw out and I'm not sure when I should be using them.
On the positive side, I think I'm getting a better feel for some of my normals and I'm remembering to use them a bit more often.

so, what did I learn today? Well, first: I need to learn my normals better because managing to hit the auto-combo generally helps me. Second, I need to remember to use Drive Impact more often. Third, I need to learn how to tech throws. That Luke I fought in the fifth set of matches on the third video caught wise to the power of just spamming throw and I don't know how to react when that gets done to me. Fourth: Dhalsim's really strong. I have no idea how to get in against a good Dhalsim that's zoning properly. It's like I'm playing against a UNIEL character. Fifth: I need to learn what the rushdown characters like Cammy and Lily are doing. I just don't know what they're doing.
